SOUTH SALEM SENIORS, INC.
In August 1989, 20 people met and South Salem Seniors came into being. We now have in excess of 1500 members. Articles of Incorporation were filed on October 13, 1989 and the IRS 501 ©3 non-profit classification was received August 22, 1991. Our first home was rented space in the Old Pringle School. Then Scottish Rites Lodge leased us two rooms for office and some activities and in 1993 rented us land to house two modular buildings. We moved into our permanent home in August of 2002, with a mortgage of $725,000. Our current mortgage (6 years later) is approximately $150,000. Our funding (which maintains and operates our building and retires our mortgage) is all up to our members volunteers. We do not receive any assistance or funds from federal, city nor state agencies. These fund raising activities include (but are not limited to): Recycling of newspapers, junk mail, telephone books etc. (A daily activity) Monthly Pancake Breakfast Gift Shop The purpose of the South Salem Seniors organization is to promote a wide array of activities for the educational, recreational and social and cultural needs of seniors 50 years of age and older. Our goal is to assist those seniors to stay active and to make full use of their abilities.
